Reducing Our Carbon Footprint with Cloud Infrastructure and Remote Teams
At Object Edge, our focus on innovation and excellence goes hand-in-hand with a commitment to sustainability. As we build technology solutions that empower B2B manufacturers and distributors, we’re equally dedicated to ensuring our business practices contribute to a healthier, more sustainable planet. We’re proud to share two significant steps we’ve taken to reduce our carbon footprint: our transition to cloud infrastructure and our embrace of a predominantly remote workforce.
Transitioning 98% of Our Infrastructure to the Cloud
A core part of our approach to sustainable IT is the decision to move nearly all of our infrastructure to the cloud. By migrating 98% of our operations to cloud-based solutions, we’ve significantly minimized our reliance on traditional, energy-intensive data centers. Cloud providers often operate using large, energy-efficient facilities that utilize renewable energy sources. These providers are experts in optimizing hardware usage and reducing waste, meaning that a cloud-based infrastructure is inherently more environmentally friendly.
Moving to the cloud also allows us to use resources only when we need them, helping us reduce both costs and environmental impact. Traditional data centers require significant amounts of electricity to keep servers running 24/7, even during low-usage periods. With cloud technology, our usage adjusts dynamically based on demand, reducing unnecessary energy consumption. Our transition to the cloud has also eliminated the need for us to manage and maintain a large volume of physical hardware, further reducing e-waste.
Embracing Remote Work: 70% of Our Team Works Remotely
Another step we’ve taken to reduce our environmental impact is adopting a largely remote work model. Currently, around 70% of our team works remotely most of the time. This not only enables flexibility and productivity but also significantly cuts down on emissions associated with commuting. By reducing the need for daily travel, we help our employees lower their carbon footprints, contributing to a broader reduction in emissions associated with traditional in-office work.
Remote work also means we have less need for physical office space and the energy associated with maintaining it. By operating with a smaller, more efficient office footprint, we reduce our energy consumption, waste generation, and resource use. Our remote model supports sustainability goals while allowing our teams to work in a way that’s comfortable and efficient for them.
Building a Greener Future, Together
Object Edge’s shift to cloud infrastructure and commitment to remote work underscore our dedication to sustainable practices. Our digital-first approach not only aligns with our vision of creating streamlined, efficient solutions for our clients but also mirrors our commitment to a sustainable future. These changes are a testament to our belief that technology should drive progress in every sense, including the environment.
We’re excited to continue exploring new ways to further reduce our environmental impact. By embedding sustainability into our operations, we’re not only helping our clients navigate their digital transformations but also contributing to a greener future for all.
Our journey toward sustainability doesn’t stop here, and we invite our partners, clients, and employees to join us as we continue making strides in environmentally responsible innovation. Together, we can leverage the power of technology to create a better world for generations to come.
